Project: Library Inventory and Analytics
Build a validated C++20 inventory pipeline that ingests records, maintains indexes, removes duplicates, partitions stock, and produces searchable analytics.
By the end you can
- Design an owning inventory model with deque ingestion, vector storage, and associative indexes
- Validate and deduplicate records before building map, unordered_map and set indexes
- Compose ranges and algorithm families for filtering, partitioning, sorting, binary search and numeric reports
- Explain complexity, invalidation, failure handling and tests for a production-shaped data pipeline
Builds on vector: The Default Container and How It Grows, Associative Containers: map, set and unordered_map, Sequence Containers and Adaptors: Choosing the Right Shape, Classic Algorithms: Predicates, Iterators and Output Ranges, Algorithm Families Beyond Sort and Find, STL Value Types: pair, tuple, array, string_view, bitset and numeric_limits, Modern Standard-Library Tools: optional, variant, span and ranges, Filesystem, Time and Formatting.
01 · A question first
A library receives a messy batch of inventory rows: ids repeat, titles are blank, years are malformed, and stock counts can be negative. Staff need exact id lookup, title search, low-stock alerts and a yearly report. Build one pipeline that rejects bad input, makes ownership clear, and can explain the cost of every query.
Make a guess before you read on.
